Halloweening the Hutch

Snuggle Bunny came down with a cold, so I hadn't done as much Halloween decorating as I thought I would this weekend.  Slowly, but surely, the decorations are coming out of their boxes.  The liquor hutch seemed like an easy Halloween spruce up as it's already an eekfest-ready color.  For those of you who don't know, we had originally had matching cabinets in our kitchen remodel plan.  The wine & liquor cabinets were the first things to go when we started slashing items for budget reasons.  I then decided, since we were accomplished DIYers, that we could just build them ourselves.  I drew up a design and specified a ballardized black over red sand-through finish.  Computer Genius(who's a genius in so very many ways) built it for me.  I helped with the building process, but it was mostly CG.

Here it is in full party mode.  Space for CG's Heineken Keg and room to mix drinks.

Here's a closeup of the sand-through finish that works both everyday and at Halloween.

So I set about to decorate the hutch for Halloween.  The open space by the Heineken tap seemed like the perfect space for our floating witch's head.  It lights up and talks when there is either a loud noise, or vibration.

I popped some spiderwebbing behind the fantastic wavy glass from Bendheim Cabinet Glass.

I made some labels for the bottles on top of the hutch.

Some of the bottles already had a Halloween vibe.

This one is so old, it felt like it didn't need a new label, either.  It'd be better if it was a crow, but age trumped all.

Here's the hutch before the cobwebs bag was found.

I thought about ceasing all dusting and let nature take it's course.  Hee Hee.  But in the end, I found the big  bag of cobwebbing and went to town on the bottles.

And here's my hutch all dolled up for Halloween.

I hope you enjoyed this quick makeover.  Thanks for popping in.  Make sure to check out all the makeovers at Between Naps on the Porch's Metamorphasis Monday and great stuff over at Romantic Home's Show & Tell.

  2. Thanks for the compliments, Lacey! That witch's head is a kid favorite. They love to run in and set it off, then run out of the room.
