Less Than Perfect is Good Enough

I can be one of those people who stresses out about every last thing, tries my darnedest to always appear like a superwoman, and crops the random dirty sock out of my pictures.  I tend to not share the pics of the cake that didn't rise, the project that just didn't work, or the house in it's natural state(I have 2 boys and they have a lot of stuff.)  But sometimes less than perfect is good enough, and that's never more true than when I'm creating seasonal decor.  If it's not perfect, well it'll only be up for a couple of weeks, so Eh, who cares?

I wanted a new sign for outside on the wall by my front door, and went to the garage scrap pile to find a piece of wood that would fit the bill.  This piece of plywood seemed just the right size for a front door sign.

I spray painted it black,

and painted my message with orange craft paint that totally didn't show up like I wanted it to.  But instead of spraying on another coat of black, I just left the sign as is and went over it with green glow-in-the-dark puffy paint.

I stapled on some ribbon to hang my sign,

and Voila!   Done!  From a few steps away, it's not as apparent that I totally messed up.  It just looks like the wording over a black & orange background, but you can definitely see it when you're standing right in front of it.  Of course at night, you'll only see the words glowing, and again it's only going to be up for a couple of weeks.

Do you just run with an Oops?  Or do you have to fix them?  Do you share the fails or are they your deep dark secret?

Thanks for popping in and crafting with me.

  1. I think it turned out adorable. I have lots of oops...I am not a perfect person, nor will I ever have a perfect craft LOL!

  2. I think it turned out great! I too feel like you do...some of the stuff I have to crop out or fix, and then sometimes I say what the heck and just roll with it :) I wish I had that attitude more often, though! :)

    Have a great day friend!

  3. It looks great and like you wanted the letters in two colors. (I love glow in the dark stuff.)

  6. There are no mistakes :) This is fantastic and the orange makes the letters appear to glow.
